Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued its final rule regulating PFAS chemicals in drinking water supplies on April 10, 2024. The final PFAS regulation contains mostly minor changes to the EPA’s 2023 proposed rule. The EPA utilized the HI approach due to additive health risk from co-occurrence of these compounds.

In April 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) introduced a new regulation to limit the amount of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water. For PFOA and PFOS, the EPA set the Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) at 4 parts per trillion (ppt), with the goal to eventually reduce the MCL down to zero.
