Ocean data company XOCEAN announced that it has raised 115 million (USD$118 million) in a new funding round. The company said it will use the funds to expand its services globally, and develop new products and services, to address demand for high-quality data solutions across the blue economy. Founded in 2017, Ireland-based XOCEAN provides ocean data to the offshore energy and civil hydrography sectors.
Southern Company James Jimmy Earl Carter, 39 th United States president and former Georgia governor, passed away on Dec. 29, 2024. He was 100, the longest-lived President in U.S. history. After battling brain cancer in 2018, Carter faced a series of health complications and had been receiving home hospice care since Feb. 2023. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing, the Carter Center said on its website.
Researchers have created a dataset of the whole atmosphere, enabling new research to be conducted on previously difficult-to-study regions. Using a new data-assimilation system called JAGUAR-DAS, which combines numerical modeling with observational data, the team created a nearly 20-yearlong set of data spanning multiple levels of the atmosphere from ground level up to the lower edges of space.
