The research shows that sustainability reporting has become part of business as usual for almost all of the worlds largest 250 companies, and a large majority of the top 100 companies in each country, territory or jurisdiction. The last two years have seen significant increases in the proportion of companies publishing carbon reduction targets. The proportion of companies reporting on biodiversity remains lower but has similarly increased since 2022.

The Government of Canada announced a new climate goal, setting a target to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 45% to 50% by 2035, on a 2005 basis. While the government described the new goal as the next step in achieving its net zero by 2050, the target would represent only a minor reduction compared to Canadas current 2030 goal, and falls below the 50% – 55% ambition recommended by the government-appointed Net-Zero Advisory Body as required to achieve the 2050 target.
