New research identifies an association between glyphosate exposure in mice and symptoms of neuroinflammation, as well as accelerated Alzheimer's disease-like pathology. This study tracks both the presence and impact of glyphosate's byproducts in the brain long after exposure ends, showing an array of persistent, damaging effects on brain health. The findings suggest the brain may be much more susceptible to the damaging effects of the herbicide than previously thought.
The global landscape of sustainability is evolving rapidly. The challenges we face—from climate change to biodiversity loss—demand urgent and transformative action. While sustainable development has been a guiding principle for decades, it has become increasingly clear that its framework is insufficient for the times we live in. This realization drove us to make a bold […] The post Why We Chose Regenerative Design as a Competence Unit and Not Sustainable Development appeared first on The G

Twenty-twenty-four will go down as the most expensive ever for home insurance claims in Canada so far. Unfortunately, insurance companies will pass along those costs to Canadians in the form of higher premiums in 2025, adding to already inflated levels endured over the past decade. We are trapped in a climate-driven cycle of bigger impacts, higher claims and higher premiums.
Australias economic future would be at risk if we stop wind and solar to build nuclear: Big industries would have to close and the risk of blackouts would be significant. The post This talk of nuclear is a waste of time: Wind, solar and firming can clearly do the job appeared first on RenewEconomy.
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced the signing of the Climate Change Superfund Act, a new piece of legislation aimed at requiring fossil fuel companies to pay for a share, proportionate to their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, of the investments in infrastructure needed to adapt to climate change. The text of the legislation estimates that the new act is anticipated to require fossil fuel companies to pay approximately $75 billion through 2050, or about $3 billion per year.
Researchers analyzed radioisotopes in layers of fossilized volcanic ash. Decay of uranium to lead within tiny crystals enabled scientists to precisely pinpoint dates for certain events. They determined this event occurred 119.5 million years ago -- coincident with evidence for massive volcanic eruptions -- and lasted for 1.1 million years. Study results help scientists better understand links between atmospheric CO2 levels, climate changes and conditions in the oceans.

We know a lot about how much fossil-derived carbon is emitted to the atmosphere but less about how much is stored in human-made products. Ecological economists estimate that each year, humans add around 400 million tons of fossil carbon to long-lasting products such as plastics, buildings, and human infrastructure. Although these products could be considered a 'carbon sink,' proper waste management is essential to prevent them from becoming environmental hazards.
A technology that converts low-temperature waste heat into electricity has earned the Institute of Physics (IOP) Business Innovation Award for FeTu, the Elland-based green energy business behind the approach. The award celebrates FeTus success in translating physics research into a viable commercial enterprise with a product that the IOP judges described as a revolutionary heat engine.
Collecting accurate air emissions data is crucial for regulatory compliance (such as air emission permits) and for identifying opportunities to reduce carbon emissions in industrial operations. Whether for air emission permits or carbon reduction strategies, the process involves understanding and quantifying emissions from different sources in your facility and in the case of carbon reduction, taking steps to reduce those emissions over time.

Of these, 57 have explicit policies to phase out or reduce virgin polyester, which Stand.earth said was necessary to reduce the sectors carbon footprint.

The holidays are in full swing and people are shopping, wrapping and packing to visit loved ones. Along with the extra fees for checked baggage and seat upgrades, some airlines are also considering weight-based pricing. Previous research found that insects can ingest and absorb pure, unrefined microplastics -- but only under unrealistic, food-scarce situations. Zoologists have now tested mealworms in a more realistic scenario, feeding them ground-up face masks -- a common plastic product -- mixed with bran, a tastier option. After 30 days, the research team found the mealworms ate about half the microplastics available, about 150 particles per insect, and gained weight.

Global supply chains are no longer just the "back-end" of businesses—they're now the front line in a world of constant disruptions. From the COVID-19 pandemic to geopolitical conflicts and extreme weather events, supply chains have been tested like never before. If these challenges weren’t enough, companies are also grappling with a surge in consumer demand for ethical practices and environmental stewardship.
Temperatures are rising (and not just metaphorically) as key stakeholders anxiously anticipate the outcomes of COP28. While companies reconsider their 2024 environmental sustainability strategies, there is another aspect of ESG that deserves exploring, the social sector. In the latest edition of "Navigating ESG Comms Through the Cosmos - Sagittarius Edition", 3BL hones in on this sign’s bold quality of asking questions others are burning to know the answers to.
