IONATE, a startup that makes smart electric transformers and software for electric grids, announced that it has raised $17 million in a Series A round, with proceeds to be used to fuel growth across key markets, launch its US operations, and advance its technology.
“The absence of a net zero emissions strategy for Ontario’s electricity grid could result in missed growth opportunities in promising new markets,” said the report, Net Zero Opportunities , pointing to renewables, smartgrids and battery storage.
But in early 2019, Amazon announced an industry-first for a delivery company: It pledged that half of all of its shipments would be net-zerocarbon by 2030. The entire company (including transportation) will be net-zerocarbon by 2040. It's been building out smartgrid tech and testing out a virtual power plant.
Duke Energy is one of the convention sponsors, so three leaders are participating in discussions on electrification of truck and bus fleets, how to make the technology affordable and net-zerocarbon emissions. Duke Energy is moving to net-zerocarbon emissions by 2050.
She found a natural fit in Grid Management, where she works today, alongside other engineers who implement smart technology that helps ensure customers have power when and where they need it. The smartgrid can reroute service around problems, reducing the likelihood a customer is impacted by an outage.
Michael Phelan, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of GridBeyond, said: “The newly completed financing round sets GridBeyond on the path to increase the reach of our intelligent energy platform and deliver world leading AI and powerful automation capabilities to smartgrid and energy markets across the world.
VMware CEO Raghu Raghuram's opening keynote highlighted VMware’s ZeroCarbon Committed initiative, a collaborative effort that taps the enormous potential of VMware’s public cloud partner ecosystem. Another objective in this transformation was to create a more sustainable and secure environment by reducing carbon footprint.
The North West is the leading region which already has all the elements required to deliver a net zerocarbon industrial cluster by 2040 – including renewables, hydrogen, Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage (CCUS), nuclear and smartgrids.
Traceability is the next big frontier in demanding clean energy from source to socket, argues former IBM Global SmartGrid Systems Leader, Steve Hoy. True Zerocarbon is the new goa l. True Zero, it turns out, is the fulcrum on which the entire world will go green. by Steve Hoy.
In the race to meet aggressive decarbonization and net-zerocarbon goals and regulations, a new study shows that utilities cannot afford to just focus on clean energy supply investments.
V2G can push and pull energy between a connected EV and the grid, supplying the grid with stored, charged power and helping balance energy consumption and production. Duke Energy is making improvements now to ready the grid for more renewables and technologies like vehicle-to-grid,” said Sideris.
Up and down the renewable-energy food chain, workers are needed — scientists in research and development, engineers and software developers in smartgrid, energy production and storage, construction and maintenance workers in plant and solar/wind farm operations, finance, sales and marketing wizards in product commercialization, and many others.
And with the US, along with other countries, having pledged to meet net zerocarbon emissions targets by 2050, we expect reliance on clean energy sources to increase regardless of election outcomes. Crude oil and natural gas production grew over the same period, but so did clean-energy capacity.
